Primary Source: Bill of Rights from the Journal of
the First Session of the Senate of the United States of America, 1789
on page 24 of the lesson.
Materials:
Copy of the Journal entry
Poster
Crayons, markers, etc.
1. Students will read the amendments that made up the Bill
of Rights.
2. Students will pair up in groups of 2 and are randomly assigned one
of the first ten amendments.
3. Each pair will discuss and write what they think the amendment means
in their own words.
4. Afterwards, each pair of students will make a mural of the amendment
assigned to them. They are not allowed to use words, just pictures and
symbols.
